APL has reported a strong volume recovery in the four weeks ending November 13 with throughput standing at 416,000 TEU, 23 per cent higher year on year.
But while volumes were cheering, freight rates failed to show improvement, said APL, the container arm of Singapore`s Neptune Orient Lines (NOL). Revenue per TEU during the period was US$1,120 per TEU, 28 per cent lower than last year.
The latest volume report suggests that demand recovery is under way for the carrier, even as it enter the weaker winter months, observed Paris-based Alphaliner.
