New World, Grand Alliance to cut capacity, combine Pacific loops

THE New World Alliance (TNWA) and Grand Alliance (GA) carriers have announced a combination of services and a 4,000-TEU capacity reduction from early December to match shrinking demand on the transpacific.
The Grand Alliance - Hapag-Lloyd, NYK and OOCL - will jointly operate the New York Express (NYX) with New World carriers, APL, Hyundai and MOL. TNWA will provide six ships and the GA, three. APL, Hyundai and MOL will each remove a ship from the loop.
In addition to a recently added Yokohama call, the NYX port coverage will be add another call at Shenzhen`s Shekou Container Terminal, said a TNWA statement.
The new rotation will be Shanghai, Ningbo, Shenzhen (Shekou and Yantian), Hong Kong, Kaohsiung, Panama Canal, Manzanillo, New York, Norfolk, Savannah, Jacksonville, Miami, Manzanillo, Panama Canal, Balboa, Yokohama and Busan.
The NYX service will continue to be part of the TNWA`s Asia-US east coast via the Panama Canal service offerings as well as the APX (Atlantic Pacific Express), said the statement.
