The eastern Chinese City of Yantai has launched its first all-cargo chartered flight service to Europe, Logistics Week reported.
The new service, operated by Lufthansa Cargo and Shenzhen Airlines` joint venture Jade Cargo International, picks up export cargoes at Shanghai`s Pudong International Airport first, then flies to Yantai to pick up exports again before heading straight to Amsterdam.
The service offers three flights per week, using Boeing 747 freighters that can carry up to 110 tonnes. This is the largest freighter ever used at the Yantai airport.
The maiden flight was carrying laptops manufactured by Foxconn from Yantai, worth US$7.2 million.
Yantai Customs has promised to offer 24-hour and appointed extra service on weekends to secure the smooth clearance of exports using the new service.
Before launch of the new service, Yantai shippers` exports had to be transported to Beijing or Shanghai`s Pudong airport in the limited bellyholds of passenger aircraft
